Mikal Sabree, LICSW, PIP
Mikal Sabree is a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker, Private Independent Practitioner. Sabree is the CEO and Clinical Director of Sabree Therapeutic Services, LLC. Sabree earned his Bachelor’s of Social Work from Alabama State University. Sabree earned his Master’s of Social Work with a concentration in Child and Family Welfare from Alabama A&M University. Sabree has 8 years of experience as a clinician. In addition, Sabree has 3 years of experience as a Department of Social Work Adjunct Instructor at Alabama State University. Sabree recently began teaching as an Adjunct Instructor for the University of Alabama’s Online Master of Social Work program, Fall 2019.
Sabree is skilled in working with tweens, teenagers and adults experiencing, but not limited to: depression, anxiety, trauma, grief, oppositional-defiant behavior and life transitions. Although trained in the use of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Sabree utilizes a holistic approach during the therapeutic process.
Sabree is a native of Montgomery, AL. He believes in the power of psychotherapy and counseling as a healing mechanism to overcome past, present and future challenges. In his free time, he enjoys reading, volunteering, exercising and spending time with family.
Stephanie Johnson, MS
Stephanie Johnson earned her Master's in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Troy University and a Bachelor's in Human Resource Management at Faulkner University. Stephanie has worked in the following work settings since entering the counseling profession: drug court, outpatient substance abuse treatment, outpatient mental health counseling and vocational rehabilitation services. Stephanie has received training in the use of completing substance abuse assessments, meeting The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration's (SAMHSA) guidelines. She has experience working with clients diagnosed with serious mental illnesses (SMIs) and behavioral issues. She uses a variety of therapeutic approaches including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Person-Centered Therapy, and Solution Focused Therapy.
Stephanie's theory is that when people have hope and can learn to challenge and replace irrational thoughts, beliefs, and attitudes people are free to experience change. Stephanie considers herself an active therapist, combining experience, education, creativity, and sense of humor with a down-to-earth, realistic approach to counseling.
Sommer Brown
Sommer Brown is the Administrative Assistant for our team at Sabree Therapeutic Services, LLC. She has experience with administrative tasks including scheduling, billing, copays, and correspondence. Having held positions in customer service and management, she is able to tailor her skills to meet the needs of various clients. Sommer is able to interact with potential and existing clients and has increased customer service satisfaction at several companies.
Sommer graduated from Montgomery School of Bodywork & Massage with a certification in therapeutic massage and aromatherapy. She later became a licensed massage therapist and went on to manage her own mobile massage therapy business for several years. In 2018, Sommer attended AUM and received a certificate of completion in Optical Assisting.
In addition to her duties as an administrative assistant, Sommer is also active in her community. She is a part of a mentor group which does community services such as providing socks and blankets for the homeless, distributing water, and visiting nursing homes. In her spare time, she enjoys reading, studying holistic ways to improve health and crafting handmade soaps and skincare products.
Cheryl Whetstone, LPC, NCC, CCSP
Cheryl L. Whetstone is a Licensed Professional Counselor, Professional School Counselor and National Certified Counselor. Cheryl is an active member of the Alabama Counseling Association. She enjoys working with individuals of all ages dealing with a variety of issues. Cheryl specializes in working with adolescents coping with anxiety, grief and loss, social skills and trauma. The driving force behind Cheryl's work is her strong belief that all people matter and should be treated with respect, understanding and compassion.
In her leisure time, she enjoys spending time with her family and friends and serving her community. Most of all, Cheryl enjoys delicious cuisines at local restaurants in different states and countries.
Liliana Sanchez, LMHC, LPC
Liliana Sanchez is a Licensed Professional Counselor in both the state of Alabama and the state of Florida. Liliana has practiced as a licensed clinician for 5 years. Liliana is originally from South Florida where she earned a Master's in Special Education from Nova Southeastern University and a second Master's in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Argosy University. Liliana is trained in Functional Family Therapy and in Special Education. Liliana is also bilingual (English and Spanish).
As a therapist, Liliana's experience includes working with all populations with an emphasis on women's issues, family systems and couples/relationship counseling. Liliana's passion is working with families on creating nurturing environments to increase a sense of well-being. Liliana utilizes a variety of holistic techniques to attain this and believes in tailoring therapy on an individualized basis. She promotes positive self-regard for all who seek help.
Liliana worked as a Special Education teacher and consultant for over 20 years before becoming a licensed counselor. She has also worked as an advocate for children with disabilities and is considered an expert in the area of assistive technology.
Shanta Jenkins, M.S., LPC, MAC
Shanta Jenkins is a Licensed Professional Counselor with the State of Alabama and a certified Master Addiction Counselor. She is a member of the Alabama Counseling Association, the Alabama College Counseling Association, and The Association for Addiction Professionals. She earned her Master's in Community Counseling and a Bachelor's in Psychology and Sociology from the University of South Alabama in Mobile, AL. She has 27 years working in the mental health field to include domestic violence, investigating child abuse and neglect, financial counseling, co-occurring disorders, and group therapy. She has previous experience working with both adolescents and adults in substance abuse treatment at both the residential and intensive outpatient levels of care. She has previously served as an Adjunct Professor and a Faculty Senior Research Thesis Advisor at the University of South Alabama and has supervised graduate students and interns. She has experience working with individuals in community mental health and university counseling settings which have allowed her to develop skills in dealing with a variety of mental health concerns including anxiety, depression, grief, addiction, trauma, relationship/couples counseling, and self-esteem. She utilizes an integrated and holistic treatment modality consisting of a realistic, person-centered, and cognitive behavioral approach of helping people work towards achieving mental, physical and spiritual well-being in every aspect of their lives.
In her personal time, she enjoys experimenting with new recipes, traveling, and spending time with family and friends.
Dorothy Montgomery, LPC
Dorothy Montgomery is a clinical therapist with 17 years of experience. She is from Bronx, New York, and moved to Alabama at the age of twelve. Montgomery graduated from Youngstown State University with a BA in Psychology, graduated from Troy University in Montgomery with an MS in Counseling and Human Development, and graduated from AUM with an MS in Justice and Public Safety. She is currently a candidate as an Education Specialist in Clinical Mental Health at Jacksonville State University. She is licensed by the board as a Licensed Professional Counselor. She is also an active member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.
